Savannah’s Educational Opportunities

A Guide to Savannah’s Educational Opportunities

There are so many facets of Savannah to explore and enjoy, and its premier educational opportunities are one of those! When people come to tour our homes, we often hear that they’re looking at Upper East River because of its proximity to SCAD. Many times, they are semi-empty nesters seeking a second home close to their college students. Of course, we also connect with plenty of young families who are prioritizing life in the Hostess City because of its stellar public school districts and other K-12 options. So we thought it would be fun (and perhaps helpful) to dedicate a blog post to Savannah’s educational opportunities! Let’s talk about it all …

At the heart of Savannah’s educational landscape is the Savannah College of Art and Design. For decades, this institution has been renowned for its unfailing dedication to arts and culture. Many famous directors, actors, writers, and fine artists—among others—have found their footing in the halls of SCAD. With programs for illustration, fashion design, game development, and so much more, it is a treasure among Savannah’s educational opportunities.

Top-Rated Public Schools

But before one’s children have the chance to change their lives at SCAD, the foundation of their minds and souls is built from kindergarten through 12th grade. Every parent knows that public school districts are a core part of real estate decisions. We all want the best for our kids, and the district you’re zoned for matters. This is something many young families point to when they’re asked what they love about Savannah … all the schools are rated highly, so choosing one’s exact location isn’t so stressful. From Howard Elementary School to Coastal Middle School to Jenkins High School, Savannah’s educational opportunities for K-12 are stellar. Spend a few minutes exploring the ratings on Great Schools, and you’ll see what we mean.

The theme of arts and culture does continue in this category, with the public Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts beloved by many locally.

Private and Charter Possibilities

While Savannah’s public schools leave nothing to be desired, the city has plenty of private and charter schools too! Those who seek this experience for their young ones have plenty of options, from Montessori preschools to academics focused on gifted programs for all ages. The options among Savannah’s educational opportunities really do feel endless!

The Appeal of Upper East River for SCAD Families

While of course our beautiful neighborhood is a wonderful place for young families too, we’ve found it holds unique appeal for SCAD parents. More and more, we host showings for couples who plan to use their Upper East River residence as a second home base while their child attends SCAD. This not only makes visiting simple and comfortable for them. It also offers their child a chance to spend a weekend at home when they need a break from campus life. We often hear those same parents expressing their excitement about exploring this gorgeous city and even planning to spend holidays here now that they have a local connection via their SCAD student. It’s an ideal situation for everyone!
