In February, one might say, “love is in the air.” It’s certainly a romantic time of the year, and we’ve been feeling that magic whirling about … although, in a city with as much charm as Savannah, it can happen often, Valentine’s Day or not.
We aren’t the only ones who find the place enchanting in this way. Countless lovebirds come to the Hostess City each year for the purpose of marrying beneath its ambient oaks—and maybe you’re thinking of becoming one of them? Or, perhaps a proposal is on the horizon?
Well, we’ve got your back, sweethearts and suitors. Take a delightful stroll through a few of Savannah’s romantic places and be prepared to swoon!
Thompson Hotel

We’re going to start off with a place near and dear to our hearts here at Upper East River: the soon-to-be Thompson Hotel. Once complete, it will be the anchor of our sister development, Eastern Wharf—and it promises to become quite the stunner. While this location isn’t completed yet, there are several other Thompsons, and each offers some seriously stylish wedding possibilities.
The Mackey House

If you’re looking for something that feels appropriately Southern, with all the quaint and cozy charm of a treasured summer home, The Mackey House is your dream destination. Propose on the grand staircase or take your wedding photos among its flourishing gardens and lovely fountain. Daytime or evening, the outdoor ceremony and reception setups are breathtaking.
Lafayette or Monterey (or Any Other) Square

While one of Savannah’s historic squares might not be big enough for a wedding (unless you’re going micro, which is an ever-increasing trend), they are one of the most romantic spots we can imagine for a proposal. Picture this: A breeze is floating through, making the Spanish moss sway from your position between two towering oaks. A fountain gurgles in the background. And then, you get down on one knee. Although you have many to choose from, one of our favorite squares for an event such as this is Lafayette Square. Monterey Square is also a beauty, though.
Perry Lane

For those looking for a more modern-feeling wow factor, Perry Lane is a must. The hotel’s uber elegant and sophisticated setting is a turnkey wedding venue, but The Emporium Kitchen & Wine Market, its renowned in-house restaurant, would make one stellar proposal location—and following the big moment up with a romantic evening in one of Perry Lane’s high-class suites would be the icing on the cake.
Savannah Riverboat Cruises

Another idea of special uniqueness is this: Take your love on a journey with Savannah Riverboat Cruises and propose with glowing skies and glistening waters in the background. If you’ve been on a river cruise before, you haven’t been on one like this. A river cruise in Savannah is a wholly individual experience. The Hostess City takes the refinement up a notch, and our river is something truly beautiful to behold. And while it might be a surprise that they can fit, weddings are welcomed!
Tybee Island Wedding Chapel & Grand Ballroom

Sometimes, the tradition of a classic church setting is just what a couple desires. If this sounds like you, Tybee Island Wedding Chapel & Grand Ballroom should be on your list to visit. Its main ceremony area features gorgeous wood beams, and its reception options are spacious. Its exterior is just as picturesque, so your photography will have an unparalleled canvas to work with, and those once-in-a-lifetime photos will live up to every expectation.
Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum

If you and your love share a passion for the sea and sailing, the perfect locale for a memorable proposal or character-filled wedding might be Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum. The institution’s grounds and buildings are surprisingly stately and offer a somewhat Mediterranean feel.
Georgia State Railroad Museum

If railway history is more your fascination, Georgia State Railroad Museum invites you to marry in its quintessentially industrial ceremony space. With an array of fun activities, a day at the museum would also provide plenty of cool opportunities to pop the question.
We hope this collection of romantic places gives you ample inspiration for these two biggest days. Best wishes to all of you soon-to-be engaged or married lovebirds, and if one of our suggestions does make its way into your proposal or wedding, we’d love to see the photos!
Oh, one more thing … if you end up experiencing your dream celebration in our Hostess City and start to think you’d like to spend more time here, we’re just a phone call or email away.
